The project

Building up, not out

This project added a whole new storey on top of an existing single storey rear extension, turning it into a full two storey extension without taking up any more of the garden. The brief was more space upstairs, built off the existing structure and tied seamlessly into the original house.

We checked and prepared the existing structure to carry the new floor, then raised the new first floor in facing brickwork matched to the original house, with a new pitched roof framed, tiled and detailed to sit cleanly against the existing roofline. The result reads as part of the original home rather than an addition.

Matched and weathered in

New timber rafters formed the pitched roof over the extension, finished with matching tiles, fascias and rainwater goods so the new storey weathers as well as the rest of the house. The brickwork was matched carefully to the existing, right down to the detailing around the gable and verges.

With the structure weathertight, the new first floor space was ready to be fitted out and finished inside, adding a valuable extra room above the existing ground floor.

As with every DNR Build project, the work was managed end to end by our own team, kept tidy throughout, and finished to a standard built to add lasting value to the home.
