Rear Single Storey Extension

More space across the back of the home

This was a single storey extension built across the rear of the home, taking the family out into the garden and adding a genuinely useful run of new space at ground floor. The brief was more everyday room to live in, along with a new utility and a shower room, all finished to a clean, modern standard.

Everything started with fresh groundworks and new footings, then the new walls were raised in facing brickwork matched to the existing house so the extension reads as part of the original rather than an addition. New openings were formed for the windows and door, with lintels set in to carry the brickwork above.

The extension was given a new insulated flat roof, decked, weathered and detailed to sit cleanly against the existing house and keep the new space warm and dry. From the brickwork and lintels through to the roof build up and rainwater detailing, the materials were chosen to match the home and weather well for years to come.

Finished inside and out

Inside, the new space was plastered, insulated and finished throughout, with the rooms opened up to the rest of the house through new structural openings. We fitted a new utility area with units and a sink, and a new shower room with an enclosure, WC and modern finishes, ready for everyday family use.

The rooms were decorated and finished to a clean, contemporary standard, with fresh plaster, new flooring, new windows and crisp decoration drawing light in from the garden.

With the building work complete, we finished the outside with a new patio wrapping around the back of the home, giving a clean, level surface that flows straight out from the new rooms into the garden. As with every DNR Build project, the work was managed end to end by our own team, kept tidy throughout, and finished to a standard built to add lasting value to the home.
