Single vs double storey extension: which is right for you?
Both add space, but they suit different homes and budgets. Here is how to decide which makes sense for yours.

If you have decided to extend rather than move, the next decision is whether to build out on one level or two. The right choice comes down to what space you need and how your home is laid out.
When a single storey works best
Single storey extensions are ideal for opening up the ground floor, creating open-plan kitchen and dining space, and connecting the home to the garden. They are usually quicker and often fall within permitted development.
When to go double
A double storey extension adds space upstairs and down at the same time, making it the most cost-effective way to gain an extra bedroom and en-suite alongside a larger kitchen. It is a bigger project, but the cost per square metre is often lower than building twice.
We are happy to talk through both options at the consultation and show you which gives the best return for your home and budget.
